The Odisha High Court has released the official syllabus for the Junior Stenographer Recruitment 2025. The examination process consists of three stages – Qualifying Test in English, Computer Application Test, and a final Skill Test in Stenography. Below is the detailed syllabus and marking scheme to help aspirants prepare effectively.
Qualifying Test in English
The English Test is the first stage of the selection process. It is designed to assess the candidate’s command over English language, grammar, and writing skills.
Total Marks: 100 | Duration: 90 Minutes
- Essay in English: 20 Marks
- Translation (Odia to English): 20 Marks
- Re-translation (English to Odia): 20 Marks
- English Grammar: 40 Marks
Minimum qualifying marks: 35% (General) and 30% (SC/ST). Only candidates who secure the qualifying marks will be eligible for the Computer Application Test.
Computer Application Test
This stage checks the candidate’s theoretical knowledge and practical skills in computer applications. It is qualifying in nature, meaning candidates must secure minimum marks to move forward.
Total Marks: 100 | Duration: 1 Hour (30 min Theory + 30 min Skill)
- Theory (50 Marks): Basics of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), MS Access, Internet operations, file uploading and downloading.
- Practical Skill Test (50 Marks): Hands-on computer operations based on the topics above.
Candidates must secure at least 50% marks to qualify for the Skill Test.
Skill Test in Stenography
The final stage evaluates shorthand and typewriting speed. Marks secured in this stage will decide the final merit list.
Total Marks: 100
- Shorthand Dictation: 400 words passage at 80 words per minute.
- Transcription on Computer: At 40 words per minute.
- Marking: 0.25 marks per correct word.
- Errors Allowed: Up to 10% mistakes/omissions. More than 10% errors lead to disqualification.
The merit list is prepared based on marks secured in the Skill Test.
Important Notes
Candidates must carefully prepare each stage as per the syllabus provided by Odisha High Court. The key points to remember:
- The English Test is eliminatory in nature. Without qualifying it, candidates cannot proceed further.
- The Computer Application Test is qualifying in nature, but failure to score 50% will disqualify the candidate.
